Casa entre Encinas is a single-family residence designed by UNODE Estudio and located in Las Rozas, on the outskirts of Madrid, Spain. The house is set within a landscape characterized by native holm oak trees, which strongly influenced the architectural strategy and the relationship between the building and its natural surroundings.
The project seeks to establish a dialogue between architecture and landscape by carefully positioning the house within the plot. The building is placed to preserve the existing trees while opening views toward the distant Madrid skyline. The design adapts to the natural topography of the terrain, allowing the main living areas to extend directly toward outdoor terraces, porches, and the garden.
The architecture is defined by a series of folded volumes that project outward, creating deep overhangs and shaded spaces that protect the interior from direct sunlight while enhancing the relationship between inside and outside. The geometry of the façades responds both to solar orientation and to the desire to frame specific views of the surrounding landscape.
At the heart of the house, a double-height living space organizes the main program of the residence. Large floor-to-ceiling windows allow natural light to penetrate deeply into the interior while maintaining visual continuity with the landscape. The ground floor contains the social areas of the house, including the living room, kitchen, dining area, and two workspaces integrated into the domestic environment.
The upper level houses the private areas, where the bedrooms are arranged around the central space and connected by a bridge that reinforces the spatial continuity of the interior. The lower level accommodates the garage and service areas.
Materiality plays a key role in integrating the building into its natural setting. The use of natural stone, large glass surfaces, and metallic volumes creates a balance between solidity and lightness while reflecting the colors and textures of the surrounding landscape. Casa entre Encinas ultimately proposes a contemporary dwelling where architecture, nature, and everyday life coexist in equilibrium.
