The project, respecting Portuguese late modernism, joins the pre-existent building with two new volumes, constructed from contemporary materials, but speaking the language of Modern European architecture, that is ironically framed by the contrast of two contemporary styles together.
Typologically the house maintains 3 sleeping rooms, despite the redistribution. The ground floor embraces the social functions as well as the bathroom and storeroom that are located behind the stairs, giving the shape for the hall.
The living room occupies the remaining area of the pre-existent ground floor, which relates to the exterior through the East facade.
A box designed in the spirit of the pavilion floats 40 cm above the level of the ground, continuing the line of the entrance.
The new volume houses the eating space and the kitchen. It is connected to the ground level through the loose steps, integrating the horizontal volume into the garden scale.
The wooden deck outside involves the swimming pool, that gives a new quality for the outside space and the garden.
The sleeping rooms are all planned on the first floor, reducing the circulation area to the minimum, enabling to insert the store room blocks.
The pre-existent attic gave a possibility to open the space vertically, adding an interesting interior geometry.
