re habitation of a forgotten area in messinessBefore the transformation process, the Casa do
Arco project was merely a group of three very small houses glued
together in the oldest part of the historical centre of São Bartolomeu
de Messines. The inclined roofs were supported by rotten wooden rounded
beams. The ceiling was made of canes and old rustic tiles. From the
beginning of this project, we knew we had to unite these three houses
into one, connected by interior accesses, including a staircase between
the ground and first floors.
The concept for this house is 'living in style in
a domestic Islamic medina'. The house now is bathed with direct
sunlight coming from the roof, revealing a hidden world behind walls,
with Moroccan and oriental touches.
After construction, the Casa do Arco has two
entrances: one main entrance through a staircase in the south façade,
and another through the kitchen in the east façade. In total, the house
has two bedrooms, one on the ground floor and another on the first
floor, a living room with salamander, one kitchen with mezzanine pantry,
one Internet point, one bathroom, one living room and a terrace.
