The building, located in Santa Cruz de Tenerife, was originally intended as a single-family home and responds to the typology of traditional Canarian architecture buildings from the mid-19th century. Its simple façade, adheres to neoclassical aesthetics.
The construction has undergone a series of profound reforms and interventions that have completely distorted it. The actions carried out managed to eliminate the majority of the load-bearing walls, having been replaced by metal frame structure. A new reinforced concrete slab was also built that serves as a roof for the semi-basement. The façade kept its architectural values almost intact.
After the preliminary analysis, the integral rehabilitation of the property was prescribed to maintain the current use of the house as headquarters of “Diablos Locos” murga, which is a musical group of the Carnival of Tenerife.
Considering the environmental values of the building, made up of its volume, façade and materiality, and from the reinterpretation of our traditional architectures, it is intended to provide the property with a scheme of a house with a backyard, which allows the development of a diaphanous and flexible space compatible with the use to which the construction is intended.
The proposed solution involves restoring the façade and its characteristic elements, recovering the sash window enclosures made of glass and carpentry, which have now disappeared.
On a material level, materials similar to those present in the constructions of the time will be used, lime and projected mortars, wood in the carpentry, polished and washed concrete that recall the old cement pavements.
