In the very centre of the beautiful city of
Lagos, we renovated a 125 m2 house which functions as a complete private
apartment connected at the rear to the swimming pool gardens of Palácio
de Lagos.
Our idea was to keep the exterior architecture
intact, allowing natural light to flow gently into the interior through a
light corridor that we placed above the wall connecting the kitchen to
the living and dining Room. On the first floor, where the bedrooms are
located, we took advantage of natural exterior light as well, combining
it with soft milky white painted walls.
The ground floor walls were built and finished
with three types of Tadelakt. A resin finish, similar to epoxy was
applied to the kitchen wall, a skin-like wax finish was applied to one
of the living room walls and a special mineral component made of ceramic
and seashells providing a discrete shiny effect was applied to another
living room wall.
The ground floor was paved with polished
Portuguese 'calçada' in a traditional pattern. The result was not only
highly sophisticated but also an homage to Lusitanian culture, revamped
into a modern minimalist setting.
The staircase was crafted of polished 'moleanos'
while the first floor was laid with beautiful polished wood, giving the
feel of comfort and coziness. Between the two bedrooms we designed a
spacious bathroom with a private shower area and two washbasins.
Casa dos Camachinhos is a project of which we are
proud: an effective mélange of comfort and simplicity, deco-rated with a
minimalist perspective and subtle notes of baroque and Arab mysticism.
