An early 1960s house set in a central area of Udine is converted into a modern urban villa in an example of restoration by subtraction. The old pitched roof and the external porch facing the street are eliminated, with no substantial alterations to the original walls and perimeter of the house. Some window shapes are also modified. As a result, the exterior of the building is completely transformed, featuring a flat roof, wide windows, sheet metal frames and sunshades and a large all-metal external staircase to access the housing.
Thanks to the elimination of some dividing walls and a more efficient organization of the spaces, a new sweeping and fluid environment is created in the surprisingly bright interiors
