The house is located in the picturesque Miraflores neighborhood in the city of Tarija, on a 350 m² rectangular plot that has been maximized through a layout based on 90-degree axes. Innovating in design, instead of opting for the traditional front and rear courtyards, we have implemented multiple courtyards, with the central one being the most important. This central courtyard acts as the heart of the home, connecting public and private areas while reinterpreting the essence of the traditional Tarijeño colonial house, where central courtyards unite different spaces. This concept of integration not only creates a sense of spaciousness but also maximizes visual endpoints, providing a rich spatial experience.
On the ground floor, the layout is organized into three clearly defined axes: the public area at the entrance, the semi-public area in the middle, and the private area at the back. The public zone houses the living and dining rooms, where the double-height ceiling creates a spectacularly open space. The incorporation of an elegant staircase and a visual circulation inspired by the promenade architecturale offers a journey that enhances internal views and expands spatial perception, giving the house a majestic and sophisticated character.
The semi-public area includes the kitchen and service area, strategically positioned next to the central courtyard, which acts as a transition point between public and private spaces. In the private zone, the bedrooms and an intimate living room provide a haven of tranquility and comfort. Additionally, the house features a mezzanine, adding a versatile multifunctional area and an extra bathroom, increasing the overall functionality of the space.
The house’s design and decor are distinguished by their sober and elegant lines. The use of wood and natural stone from Tarija not only brings a welcoming local identity but also adds warmth and character to the interiors. The color palette, composed of beige and white tones, enhances natural lighting, creating a fresh and comfortable atmosphere. The circulation throughout the house is always graceful, with well-thought-out visual endpoints and cross-ventilation optimizing environmental comfort.
Sustainability and Environmental Strategies
The project integrates essential ecological technologies and strategies. Cross-ventilation has been fundamental in the design, ensuring efficient air circulation that improves indoor air quality and reduces the need for artificial climate control. Natural lighting is maximized through large windows and open spaces, minimizing artificial light usage while creating a warm and inviting atmosphere. The spacious environments, combined with these elements, provide a healthy and comfortable living experience.
Additionally, strategic landscaping has been implemented to mitigate the heat island effect by using native vegetation and shade trees that cool the environment and improve air quality. The home's solar orientation is designed to make the most of sunlight and warmth during winter, while passive shading and natural ventilation strategies help maintain indoor freshness during summer.
The project could also incorporate solar panel systems to reduce energy consumption and rainwater collection systems for garden irrigation and domestic use. The use of thermal insulation materials ensures superior energy efficiency, aligning with sustainable design principles.
Conclusion
The house, designed by LD Arquitectura & Design, not only meets the highest standards of quality and functionality but also reflects a deep commitment to sustainability and the well-being of its occupants. Every detail has been carefully considered to create an exceptional living space that blends innovative and avant-garde concepts with a contemporary rustic touch, resulting in a unique and timeless home.
