Casa Figueroa Fonseca is located in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada de Santa Marta, 5 km north of the city of Valledupar, Colombia. The relationship of the surrounding landscape with the interior of the house and the bioclimatic aspect are the two most important determinants of design in the project
The House has an elongated shape in the East-West direction, with large glazing on the North and South facades, with the double objective of achieving the best views of the exuberant surrounding landscape and at the same time avoiding direct morning and afternoon sunlight in the hot climate of Valledupar. The social areas of the house on the first and second floors are in the main volume so that the view of the landscape literally crosses the house without any obstruction. The view of the mountains appears on the North side and the house is accessed from the South side. Therefore, the spaces are arranged in such a way that the northern view can be appreciated from the time users approach the access to the house from the south. An aspect that not only achieves the transparency of the house towards the landscape, but also generates cross ventilation taking advantage of the Northeast winds. The rooms and private areas are located in a volume perpendicular to the main one, however achieving that the views of the rooms are to the north and south. The house proposes a walkable roof as a social meeting place during sunset and at night.
