CASA AMANCAY 1
Amancay 1 is a single family residence located on the rocky coast of Zapallar, 180 kms from Santiago, Chile. The lot was originally covered by a fifteen year old pine forest, six meters in height. The house was set in the midst of the woods so it was necessary to clear some pine trees.
The initial concept of design considered a central garden which was protected from the strong Southern winds, characteristic of that area.
There are two volumes set in an orthogonal manner, forming an “L” shape. The Southern, Eastern and Northern façades were designed in a closed manner to preserve privacy. In contrast, the Western façade reveals itself almost entirely transparent as it faces the ocean. Control of the sun´s rays is obtained by large eaves 1.5 meters wide. In addition, white aluminum solar shading surrounds the decks that encircle the garden.
The house´s structure is 100% galvanized steel. The exterior coating is impregnated pine wood with carbolineum protection. Impregnated pine wood was also used for the decks, including the one in the pool area.
On the first level, the interior floor is polished industrial concrete, and on the second level, the pine wood floor is painted with polyurethane acrylic paint. The entire interior coating is made of plasterboard panels. The window frames are Komerling white PVC. The kitchen and living room cabinets are made of concrete and marble countertops.
