Casa Alto Paraiso
Casa Alto Paraiso (which means "High Paradise House in Brazilian Portuguese) is built on a 17ha land on the edge of a natural reserve, Parque Nacional Chapada dos Veadeiros. The area is one of the biggest crystal plates on earth and home to uncountable waterfalls. The project is mainly build with local people and as sustainable as possible. Before building Casa Alto Paraiso, the road was made, by hand as not to destroy nature. A bridge was built to get acces to the plot. An ecological drinking water system that brings pure water from the water wells up the mountain in to the house(s) was created making use of gravity. A natural river pool an steam room were built near the river and an internet tower was built on top of the mountain to provide the whole valley with internet. Next to that more than 3000 trees were planted to reforest the land that had served for cattle before.
Casa Alto Paraiso itself has been made with a steel structure, recyclable sandwich roof and local materials, such as river stone and local 'ipe' wood. All window structures were made on site. Rainwater is guided through the columns and guarded in a reservoir for when the dry season starts. The use of the spacious roof and stone walls tempers the climate in the house. Because of this airconditioning is not needed. Part of the land is now protected and part is used for organic plantation.
