In Casa A, the design embraces the raw and timeless character of exposed concrete. The house is conceived as a series of monolithic gestures responding to a singular protagonist: the unobstructed view. The honesty of the façades is balanced by surgical precision in the formwork, creating a texture that reacts to the shifting light of the Minho region throughout the day.
Building Strategy: Topographical Adaptability & Material Truth
The technical intelligence of Casa A lies in its topographical adaptability. The building does not merely sit on the site; it emerges from it through a solid base that anchors the structure, allowing the main volume to cantilever boldly over the slope.
• Structural Truth: We utilized in-situ exposed concrete as a total element, performing simultaneously as structural support and final finish. By eliminating cladding layers, the architecture exposes its raw essence. The formwork was planned with millimetric rigor so that joints and tie-rod holes create a deliberate visual rhythm.
• Functional Harmony: Despite the steep incline, the project ensures that functionality is never compromised. Through a strategy of "excavation and projection," we created flat outdoor terraces in direct continuity with the indoor zones.
• Performance: The large structural spans facilitate a seamless transition to the horizon, while the thermal inertia of the concrete provides natural climate control, resulting in a dwelling that is both a technical viewpoint and a functional sanctuary.
