Casa 560J is located in Centro Merida and was envisioned as a tranquil retreat from the noise and activities of Centro. The original home was a nondescript structure built in the 50's. We paid homage to it's mid-century roots with breeze blocks in the elevation, which created a sense of privacy from the street, but also allowed us to bring airflow through the house. The entry courtyard creates a respite from the street and allowed us to open the house up completely with expanses of glass to bring natural light throughout the house. The strategic placement of courtyards and private gardens to modulate light and air throughout the house truly allow a sense of indoor / outdoor living, despite the severe climate of the Yucatan.
