Casa 259 is based on the preexistence of a project carried out by another firm. With an unfinished but already advanced work, at Plan Arquitectura we assumed this great challenge of rethinking already established criteria.
We added other needs to the program and, adapting to the existing, we gave it a new formal treatment, with a series of additions that now help to unify the volumes.
We studied the physical environment and, being located in a coastal area, we sought to enhance traditional resources of tropical architecture. We have proposed pergolas, lattices, and eaves to avoid the strong solar incidence on the facades, which allows us to filter the light in a subdued way towards the interior, creating a much more pleasant environment, as well as generating interesting shadows that stimulate the senses. We carefully chose the materials palette to envelop the house in a feeling of warmth and comfort.
The landscape was carefully designed, and we decided to bring vegetation to the perimeter walls of the courtyard, planting a sustainable and low-maintenance vertical garden with plants native to the local climate. Returning to nature, a part of the ground surface used in the construction, providing a touch of freshness, an important improvement in the thermal comfort of the space, and reducing the temperature by several degrees, in addition to the well-being it produces in people. A project with restrictions, but it is precisely those limitations that give character to the work.
