A 1820ft2 Flat in an existing (c. late 1890s) Georgian Town house was renovated by inserting warmth and texture into the original scaled rooms. The design, in what we described as a "Cary Grant Modernism" concept (think modern, elegant, and quality materials) created a modern setting when the flat was transformed but retained many original Georgian features. A series of interior contrasts played with old and new, such as original white marble fireplaces, with modern gas fitting from the Platonic Fireplace Company or Large Cherry book-matched panels in a Georgia skirting and corniced room. Elsewhere Maple hardwood frames created bench seatings at the entry, and a contemporary take on a "shaker" inspired kitchen off set in white marble and duck egg blue cabinets. Completing the finishes laminated hardwood flooring in Walnut was used throughout and an Irish Wool in thick weave carpeting softened the Bedrooms. Creative use of spaces made for fun, hide and seek, with the master bathroom and walk-in closet werehidden behind the cherry panels.
