The
Georgetown Station project is an intermodal transportation center built on land
that was once the Georgetown city dump. The facility is helping reduce the
city's carbon footprint and hoping to inspire people to ride the public
transportation system. Strategically
located on a view corridor along IH-35, the facility is designed as a beacon
for travelers and commuters of the local availability and appeal of mass transit. The
new station aims to be a model for others and the project incorporates LEED principles into the
design. Some of these design elements include: strategic building orientation
(passive solar), the use of recycled materials, photovoltaic panels, a wind turbine, and rainwater collection.
