This refurbishment and extension of a 1950's property for a young, growing family provides a larger, more functional home in which to live.
The concept began with the idea of extending the existing kitchen and connecting it to a large open-plan living and dining area to provide much-needed additional living space. The flow and layout were key considerations and it became obvious when defining the client's brief that there was a need to provide direct access to the garden. Large sliding doors allow the dining area to be extended onto a concrete plinth that bridges the threshold between inside and out.
The use and control of natural daylight was carefully considered when developing the design. Large floor to ceiling doors allow winter light into the kitchen while an oversailing roof protects the space from overheating in summer.
