The site is located in Winchester. Situated on the West side of the main road, the existing house sits on an East West axis with a large rear garden which receives sunlight throughout the early morning and afternoon.
The large existing house offers a fantastic family home but hasn’t harnessed its full potential on the plot. Maximising space for the family is key to the clients brief. The ground floor is inefficient with space and makes it hard to interact with the garden. Natural light is paramount within the concept and links to the rear garden are also important for a secondary entrance from the road behind.
The proposal is to utilise the ground floor extension to create a large open plan living area with a dual facing fireplace, playroom and kitchen area. On the first floor there will be a small rear extension allowing for the creation of an additional bedroom and reconfiguration of the bathroom. Finally to the second floor there will not be any external modifications however a new staircase will be installed to allow access to the loft area creating the 6th bedroom of the house.
The extensions themselves will be contemporary in design and will use timber and glazing to improve the aesthetics of the house to the rear of the property while increasing the light to the ground floor.
