CapitaMall Xinduxin is located in the heart of Qingdao's New Urban Center with a direct link to Qingdao's new subway system. The planning and massing of this project reflects the movements of pedestrians and vehicles across and around the site. The bold exterior forms and overlapping volumes accentuate this dynamic idea.
The project's facades and forms also relate to the Qingdao's seaside heritage. Floor plates intertwine and overlap in streamlined layers like waves flowing over one another in the sea. Three outdoor terraces of nearly 800 square meters each are the results of this movement. The building façade consists of continuous horizontal metal panels that accentuate the wave-like forms. Integrated brand signage, display windows, and outdoor platforms further enrich the architectural image.
At night, horizontal light strips hidden within the metal panels light up each corner, drawing attention to the building’s dynamic composition and accentuating its sinuous lines. The undersides of the overlapping forms are evenly floodlit, creating a strong visual impact from eye level and illuminating the overall architectural language.
Entries facilitate direct access to the subway system on the Eastern edge of the site and the main automobile drop off points along Heifei and Tailiu Roads. Once inside, the interior is structured around an organic central object that holds dining locations on multiple levels. The contrast of linear and curving storefronts makes for a dynamic spatial environment, creating a series of interlocking public spaces with unique characteristics.
The fifth floor exemplifies the project's own IP in three distinct zones: the Honey Heart Forest, the Hidden Garden, and the Honey Nest. The Honey Heart Forest has a three-story water cascade that is the center of a complete water system landscape. Within the cascade is a glimpse of the Honey Pot. Hundreds of tropical and subtropical rainforest plants represent the original Xishuangbanna natural rainforest scenery. The Hidden Garden utilizes a vertical surface present the complete story of the Honeypot to customers experiencing the space. The Honey Nest uses the Honey Pot symbol to shape the personality point. Warm, bright colors and naturally lit space make the interior naturally inviting.
The skylight design accommodates both natural and artificial lighting in a variety of apertures that allow for the control of light over the walkways and atriums below.
CapitaMall Xinduxin has a rich variety of programs and brands. More than half of the brands are entering Qingdao for the first time, and the anchor and secondary stores are well-known chains. The program is made up of 30% F&B, 40% Retail, and 30% Service support and others. There are 70 catering brands in various categories such as Chinese and Western cuisine, specialty dishes, and casual dining, with the two anchor stores of CGV Cinema and LIFE SUPERMARKET at the project's core. Unlike other shopping malls where the program on each floor is static, the layout of CapitaMall Xinduxin features cross-floor catering. For example, L1 has a comprehensive program of both fashion and casual dining.
The emergence of CapitaMall Xinduxin fills the retail gap in the north of Qingdao. From its opening to the present, the flow of visitors has been continuous and CapitaMall Xinduxin has become one of the most well-known projects in Qingdao and a must-see place for visiting tourists.
