Project Narrative – Corporate Lobby Interior
Situated within the Phoenix Avance Campus, H6A Building in Hyderabad’s Hitech City, the lobby was envisioned as the project’s most important threshold—an interface between the bustling corporate exterior and the calm, dignified interior. Surrounded by wide arterial streets and a dense cluster of commercial towers, the site demanded a design that would not only assert presence but also extend a sense of composure and refinement to all who entered. The lobby was thus conceived not as a mere waiting zone, but as a spatial experience that establishes identity, continuity, and lasting impressions.
The client’s brief was clear: to create a space that was professional, welcoming, and timeless. Our design response was to orchestrate a dialogue between grandeur and intimacy, using scale, materiality, and light as mediating tools. The double-height volume of the lobby offered an opportunity to celebrate openness, but equally presented the challenge of humanizing its proportions. This was resolved through a layering of warm finishes, careful spatial zoning, and the introduction of sculptural lighting that anchors the eye and defines scale.
Materiality became the cornerstone of the design. A palette rooted in natural finishes was selected to convey both durability and refinement. Polished marble flooring established a reflective base, amplifying natural light and lending a sense of monumentality. Walls were clad in travertine with a hydro finish, a surface that enriched the tactility of the stone while creating visual continuity from the entrance through to the lift lobby. This continuity was deliberate—ensuring that movement across zones felt seamless, and the lobby retained its identity as one cohesive spatial experience rather than a series of fragmented areas. Wooden ceiling slats introduced warmth and acoustic softness, offsetting the solidity of stone, while custom furniture in muted blues and yellows added subtle vibrancy.
Lighting design was conceived as both functional and expressive. A suspended linear installation within the double-height volume acts as a sculptural centerpiece, celebrating verticality while simultaneously bringing human scale to the space. Complemented by recessed fixtures and cove lighting, the scheme highlights material textures, reveals surfaces, and ensures a smooth transition from daylight to evening ambience.
Spatially, the lobby was configured around principles of openness and flow. Circulation remains unobstructed, while seating clusters are arranged to encourage informal interactions. The reception desk anchors the experience against a stone-and-wood feature wall, while the travertine cladding guides users toward the lift corridor, reinforcing the design’s intent of continuity. Oversized planters punctuate the space, introducing greenery as a counterpoint to stone and marble, and embedding a biophilic quality that softens the formality of the corporate setting.
The challenges were immediate: negotiating scale, ensuring durability, and aligning fine detailing with the demands of high daily use. Yet, through meticulous attention to construction techniques and finish quality, the design achieves a balance between monumentality and intimacy, precision and warmth.
Ultimately, the lobby emerges as more than a transitional space. It is a place of pause and interaction, where stone, wood, and light coalesce to form an identity that is modern yet timeless, formal yet approachable—an architectural expression of the values and aspirations of a contemporary workplace.
