Juneau Alaska; it?s
general office culture based on 1970?s technology & design theory offered
an opportunity for change. A challenge
by the then Governor Sarah Palin?s chief of staff, provided the push to bring
the State of Alaska into the 21st century.
The budget
constraints required of a small local retailer was one of the biggest
challenges when trying to retrofit a 1930?s building into a state of the art
display. Several alternative materials
were used in creating an inviting and warm showroom that displayed ideas for
potential clients to consider. Wood and
cork veneer wallpaper over MDF and thoughtful application created the look and
feel of warmth on a shoestring budget.
Materials made from recycled glass and paper were introduced in
unfamiliar applications and a restored early 1900?s safe in the hospitality
area adds to the character of the space; showing how the old can be integrated
with the new, a challenge presented when designing for four generations of
workers. The safe, which secures the ?of
little value? wine collection is often offered to clients and guests. A wide variety of current and alternative
work settings allow clients to envision what their space might feel like and
allows clients to experience what could be.The total project budget includes freight of all products and finishes to Alaska.
