As part of their Chicago western suburban strategy, BP wanted to consolidate the remaining staff located at the AON building in Chicago into the Cantera Complex in Warrenville. DO initially worked with BP to define program requirements for a new building. To expedite the transition, we also investigated purchase and core systems upgrades needed to meet BP standards of an office building just being completed adjacent to Cantera 1, which BP decided to purchase.
The design reflects BP brand values; progressive, performance, innovative and green. The design expresses a work environment which maximizes collaborative areas and connectivity throughout. DO developed new work environment guidelines for workstations, offices, focus booths, touchdown stations, team and conference rooms, corner stores, service stations and digital diners. DO worked with multiple functional units and designed space for 600 staff. The first floor included designing a new cafeteria and conference and training center. Branding was included throughout the building beginning with the first floor lobby renovation and carried through to each functional unit.
To reinforce BP?s green/sustainable value, the project was designed to meet USGBC LEED (Leadership in Energy and Environmental Design) criteria and was accepted as a pilot building for the New Commercial Interiors program and is now LEED certified.
