The Cancer Survivors Plaza park features three spatial elements each linked together by a gently curving sidewalk. At the north end of the project, a mound of limestone rock boulders rises out of the center of an elevated terrace. The mound is surrounded by a hovering 24’ diameter ring displaying the artwork of children who have been diagnosed with cancer. Leaving the raised terrace you follow the sidewalk path sliding gently past four massive soil berms shaped in the form of large ocean waves. The waves gracefully symbolize the challenge that lies ahead, and the importance of water as a key component of life and the region. A living wall of Florida Gamma Grass encloses the southern and western sides of the room. A 140’ long arched aluminum cantilevered trellis provides shaded seating along the Northern and Eastern sides of the room. In the center of the plaza a 65’ tall sail rises above the space with six sail panels, each different in size, rotating around the mast. Around the mast spiraling patterns of perennial plantings insure that the room is full of color and life at all times symbolizing the purpose of this place; to celebrate life.
