CAMS 2022 is a symposium about Cellular Aging and Metabolism. Baliza Norte was in charge of furniture and branding design for the event. The symposium identity was designed in a holistic way, using all the elements to enhance it, since graphic to furniture.
The visual identity is based on the method to analyse cell aging through the study of the color changes of circular cell culture plates when applying reagents on them, color changes depend on the grade of senescence of cells. Based on this concept, a sequence of colors that symbolises aging was defined.
The symposium furniture is a three dimensional interpretation of this graphic concept. On one hand, it intends to be easily recognisable as part of the event, becoming a big symposium sign, and, on the other hand, to fulfil the specific functions for the event (scientific posters exhibition, bar and catering).
The roof terrace where the furniture is installed is protected from rain but may be exposed to occasional gusts of wind, so the furniture also aims to have a wind protective function. At the same time the furniture intends, through the vertical partitions, to split people into small groups, as a Covid pandemic protection measure and, in addition, to promote close discussion.
The furniture was manufactured with MDF boards cut using CNC milling techniques. It’s made up of easily transportable pieces that can be assembled without needing glues, just a minimum quantity of screws was used for reinforced safety. The furniture can be easily disassembled, flat packed and stored until reused. It was produced in local manufacturers.
