ENGINE CAMPUS IN CASTELLOLÍ (BARCELONA)
The building is linked to a racetrack in Castellolí municipality located in the province of Barcelona and was devoted to the training of professional motor racing. Also hosts some companies that research in this sector.
We needed a flexible and modular building to accommodate many different sizes of companies. That is why is distributed from a base module 35 m2. Each of them is independent and sectoritzable regarding the facility. Thus each entity is responsible for its energy consumption.
The building was constructed with 6 months and that is why we chose a prefabricated concrete structure. While this structure is produced in the workshop, earthworks and foundations were made.
This structure of prestressed concrete panels allows a 14m light between pillars cheaply that releases all plants.
When choosing exterior has taken special care in sun protection of the glass surfaces to prevent overheating of the building by the greenhouse effect and the glare that hinder working with computers. That is why we have chosen filter aluminum mesh deployed.
It has also been very attentive to the problems of oxidation of the metal exterior elements and, therefore, we used aluminum, galvanized steel and stainless steel. In any case painted iron.
The interior materials have looked much suffered: the walls are cement boards more resistant to shocks and moisture than drywall. The floor is ceramic porcelain, ensuring high hardness and minimum absorption.
The interior finishes are white to favor the light output.
For the air conditioning is used geothermal energy. This provides a very low maintenance cost and a system which minimizes CO2 emissions.
The lighting and has an automatic control system to maximize natural light.
Care has been taken that the image of the building could be related to the automotive world as well as a laboratory where advanced mechanical technologies are investigated.
