approximately 7,918 people turned 60 each day. In 2008, 17.8% of Americans were
60 and over. From 2010 to 2020, the number of individuals 65 and over will
increase by 36%, to a total of 55 million. And for this expanding population of
new agers, retirement is not a requirement. USA Today reports that most of this
generation envisions an "active retirement," with a chance to remake their lives
through new careers and interests (June 26, 2006). Today’s adults are seeking
something more – something higher. In the words of BusinessWeek, the term
“college-bound senior” is getting a new meaning (June 26,
2004).
