The renovation featured a comprehensive overhaul of the stadium seating bowl, including exiting and circulation systems to improve seating and increase toilet capacities. Internal remodeling focused on expanding and upgrading concourse and concessions areas, as well as increasing on-site food prep and storage capabilities. A central full-service catering kitchen was added at the first level concourse to accommodate daily training table needs as well as game day activities.
Further improvements included eliminating obstructed view seating and providing a net gain to seating capacity of 3500, including 300 new ADA accessible seats, expanded areas of general seating, and new club, premium club and private box suites. A total of 72 box suites were added along with three levels of club seating. The seating bowl was completely enclosed, with the southeast corner of the stadium anchored by a six story office building. The building houses offices for the athletic director, staff, ticket office, and coaching staff.
All floors have windows facing the street with the upper floors overlooking the stadium bowl.
Exterior design emphasis was focused on maintaining the main aesthetic characteristics of the existing structure while updating and enhancing its overall public image. Clad almost exclusively in precast concrete, panels were chosen for their appearance to compliment the stalwart, rusticated aesthetics of the adjacent and historic UW Fieldhouse.
The extremely complex nature of the existing conditions presented design challenges to every program requirement. All schedules were met and Stadium operations continued throughout construction. In addition to successfully solving the technical construction issues, the design integrated functionally and visually into the Stadium, surrounding Athletics facilities, and urban neighborhood.
