A Dynamic and Multi-Functional Summer Camp Center

Camp Ramah, situated in the idyllic town of Ojai approximately 100 miles north of Los Angeles, serves 800 campers each summer. Abramson Teiger Architects was commissioned to design a recreational center that would serve as a multi-functional building for religious services, outdoor performances, and other events.

Situated on a sloping site, the building’s program is divided onto two levels. Every area is creatively designed to be multi-functional. The enclosed upper level can function as a sanctuary or it can be separated into smaller meeting rooms with the help of movable partition walls. The lower level is a covered outdoor gymnasium that also transforms into a seating area for a raised theatre stage. The dynamic structure features soaring sculptural glue-laminated beams. Two separate roof lines, one “Y” shaped and one “C” shaped, interlock at the exterior balcony.
