The renovation of this single-story warehouse north of Denver’s Coors field provides an uncommon and stimulating office environment for a cadre of creative thinkers crafting unique advertising strategies for their clients. Formerly an after-hours club, the transformation of CCTA is a testament to design’s ability to imagine, intervene, redefine, and revitalize space and purpose.
The bow-string truss of the existing warehouse is highlighted to recall the hull of an overturned boat, suggesting the suspension of conventional thinking that is required to navigate the experience of this space.
A number of bold moves highlight the design. A new mezzanine has been introduced to define the executive precinct and conference area. Configured as a permeable cloud, the upper level alternately compresses and opens lower level volumes.
Bold color applications intentionally blur floor and ceiling definition while subtly segmenting havens of activity. Lighting is introduced as a series of slashes in the “hull”, illuminating the space and highlighting the warmth of the wood construction above. Finally, key program elements are defined by limited partitioning punched with voids, glimpses of yet unseen discoveries the creative process revealed.
