A courtyard design in the
Southern California tradition of indoor/outdoor living, inspired by the spirit
of Mid-20th Century California Modernism and employing a simple palette
of durable, sustainable materials, precisely detailed: Wood, Glass, Plaster,
Metal.
A ring of progressively
taller, gentle forms create a central courtyard – a private, sunny oasis
screened from the neighbors, nearby rail line and highway. Separate wings provide the
diverse inhabitants the independence to come and go as they please and enjoy a
variety of activities, both inside and out, without disturbing each other.
Open, spacious interior volumes are filled with ample daylight, cross
ventilation and vistas throughout.
Landscape balances
architecture with gardens, terraces and courts. Water features symbolize and
celebrate the ocean.
Clean and contemporary, yet
appropriate for an informal beach lifestyle, this home speaks to regional
traditions while clearly being of its own time.Keith Rivera, AIA with B3 Architects
