VAMOS designed the rehabilitation of a complex 19th century masonry building set in the dense urban fabric of the small hill town of Cardona, outside of Barcelona, Spain. The design explores the possibility of contemporary architectural and landscape design in an extreme historic context. The client requested a mixed use building, with eight apartments and a retail/office space at the street level. The building proposal calls for the front of the structure to be stabilized and preserved while at the building’s rear the interior will be opened to the expansive view of the river valley beyond. The design also includes a green roof and shared garden terrace to be constructed at and around the building’s rear entry.
