Capturing the Cadence of Downtown Tucson

Located in the heart of downtown Tucson, this housing development offers the students of nearby University of Arizona the opportunity to experience both college life and urban living at its best.

An integrated design team, which included architecture, interiors, urban design, and branding, worked collaboratively to develop a design concept that responded to the project’s unique context. Adjacent to thriving music venues, new restaurants, the historic Hotel Congress, and many transit options, the design concept behind the building, The Cadence, reflects the rhythm and experience of this emerging district.

By turns gritty and polished, the building’s materials and colors evoke both the rough-hewn feel of Tucson as well as the luxury lifestyle the building provides. Rusted Korten steel is placed next to smooth white stucco. Natural wood contrasts with steel and glass. Placed against the building’s neutral palette, pops of color highlight the entry and public spaces. The juxtaposition of these elements creates a rhythm and flow that echoes the neighborhood’s vitality.
