This project involves the construction of a small building in a courtyard in the center of Turin; it is the recovery of an old laboratory, used in the past for carpentry, and its external storage.
The recovery of a low building located within a yard is certainly an interesting opportunity to rethink the transformation of existing industrial buildings into new residential spaces, with characteristics comparable to those of a classic urban apartment.
In this case, the project involved not only the recovery of old carpentry for residential purposes, but also the creation of a small laboratory and two parking spaces in place of the existing external storage. The coverage of the latter has been used to build a large terrace to the entrance of the dwelling.
The main building is composed of two volumes, the first upholstered in black metal and Okuma wooden slats, and the second, which rests on the first, completely covered in titanium zinc. A black iron girder frames the first volume, extending to define the volume of the laboratory and parking positioned perpendicular to it. A slender iron pergola covers the terrace.
The main building's ground floor includes one large space for the living room and the kitchen, while upstairs houses the master bedroom and the bathroom.
The project renovates the old carpentry through the use of a few materials, such as iron, wood, and zinc, to give the building a character that makes it recognizable within its dark and narrow space.
