This summer home is situated close to the water while staying nestled within the trees of the densely wooded site in the Gulf Islands. The building is focused on the view of the open ocean to the south, and everything, from the overall massing to the details reinforces this view. Roof beams project through to the outdoors leading the eye towards the ocean and sky. Walls and ceilings extended from inside to out, blurring the distinction between interior and exterior, while providing shade to prevent excessive solar gain. This project is being constructed by Ben Checkwitch and Ian Mott, a local craftsman and builder.
