We are Antonis Choudalakis and Sofia Mavroudis, a Greek artist and a Swedish art curator. For us, the cabins are an extended art project. It's based on a shared recognition of values like nature, architecture, art and identity. We respect history, cherish the local and definitely believe in genius loci.
We are no architects; this is architecture beyond architects, envisioned by an artist and a art curator. We came up with the idea while endlessly drinking coffee at our favourite café by the sea, talking with two at the moment local architectural students. So for this project we are owners/designers.
We are flirting with Le Corbusier’s Le Cabanon. Designed on the basis of the minimum possible dimensions but the maximum physical and spiritual comfort it could offer, Le Corbusier sometimes called it a scale of "Mediterranean balance”. Our Cabanons, made of concrete, are our take on the concept of Le Corbusier’s Le Cabanon. It is us showing our appreciation to a great thinker who showed his appreciation of the Mediterranean.
A Mediterranean where its way of life remind us about the beauty in the simplicity or give room to existential questions born by the silence and the stillness. Both me and Antonis are trying to let things take its time, if needed. True relationships and time is what we lack mostly nowadays. We tried to incorporate this thinking in the cabanons. We wanted to create a place where one could feel exposed to the rough nature, awe towards Milky Way just above ones head at night, say hello to the neighbours sheep that visits. Things are simple here. What we do is to only give a suggestion for reimagining what true luxury is.
