The concept generating the shape of CA 13 residence is based on the natural elements.

The all determining caribbean sun gave the primary direction to elevate the building in order to generate a ample shaded space open to the breeze coming in from the see. This space is programmed with "public" functions such as the Living and dining area which is connected to the pool terrace, the kitchen and a central staircase which is leading to the "private" areas elevated above. These private spaces such as the bedrooms, exterior and interior bathrooms and a library are closed to provide privacy and a climatic environment which is independant from outside temeratures.

Natural ventilation as the second decicive element introduced courtyards that the cool air streams coming in from the see can circulate through the building. The chimney effect pulls used warm air out from the closed spaces in the upper floor.

The Sun again gave shape to the defined edge of the elevated upper body of the building. Depending on the use of the specific areas in the course of the day the carved bottom edge provides shade to areas when required or opens up so the sun rays can reach deep into the center of the building.
