After Container Cabin that was built in 2022 fully transform into vacation rental, the family need to expand the weekend house in OOST Kampville project. In the site we found a small peaceful plot nestled in the Dipterocarpus alatus (resin tree) forest. With the same limitation as the previous development of Container Cabin the pre-fabrication construction method was the initial idea to develop the project because of the limitation resource of local contractor and skillful construction workers. The shipping container was then introduced to be the main indoor space of the house again but with different purposes and smaller size.
To create a small shelter for living as the weekend getaway house to escape from the city living. From the tropical climate and the problem of heat transfer of the container to the indoor space that might heat up the container by sunlight, this time we find the proper location to put 3 boxes of 20 feet size container into the forest without removing any existing tree. The arrangement of container separated the area into 2 side which refer to 2 bedroom that connected with the common area and bathroom in the middle. The small terrace on both sides expands the semi outdoor area that connect the interior of container space with the Dipterocarpus alatus forest. Then the traditional fiber cement and translucent polyester resin with fiberglass roof layer that sit on the galvanize steel structure all the material was the basic industrial construction material that can find in the local construction shop. The finishing of the material remains the nature of the material since left the factory.
C2 name refer to both see-through space of the shelter and it was the Container number 2 structure in OOST kampville too. In others term C2 refer to see-through from the arrangement of the solid fiber cement roof and translucent roof reflect the foliage shadow when you’re under Dipterocarpus alatus forest make the shelter see through both from outside and inside in the daytime and let the shelter be the light box shining to the surrounding forest in the nighttime. The common area container in the middle and be used the top as the additional space in the shade of the solid fiber cement room that can be extra camping area.
With the perfect location the C2 shelter nestled in the disadvantage part of the heat transfer and absorption of the steel structure of container was solve by the green area make it the good study project to transform the left-over container into the shelter living of tropical Dipterocarpus alatus forest that define language of the ordinary construction material language arrangement. The low cost, fast track construction process that require less labor and construction skill, the container as the prefabricated structure can be the new opportunity to develop the shelter living architecture.
