Pompei A.D. was engaged by C. Wonder, founded by Chris Burch, to create a store experience concept for this start-up brand, including store prototyping, fixture systems, signage and store design to launch the brand at their flagship location on Spring Street in New York City. The new C. Wonder store concept is organized by “rooms” that are derived from luxury homes that are inspirational and aspirational to the C. Wonder customer. The Rooms are inspired by many design movements, including the signature style of Palm Springs Modern, Hollywood Regency, English Townhouse, Vail Cabin, and American Dream, which is a take on Hamptons style. Each room presents a different category of merchandise in different ways, creating a “landscape” that can be explored and encourages customers to make discoveries. The concept framework allows the C. Wonder experience to be localized by adding new room concepts for different markets and different store footprints.Almost every element in the store is custom, including the lacquered cabinets, vibrant concrete tile floors, rugs, wallpapers, feature lighting and furnishings. Pompei A.D. worked closely with the C. Wonder team to design and develop each of these items. The storefront is branded with oversized green lacquer doors, complete with custom cast door hardware, and the brand’s green color is woven throughout each of the room concepts in different ways, some subtle and some overt. The dressing rooms also continue the customer’s interactive experience by allowing her to curate her own experience while trying on new apparel. The customer can choose her own lighting and musical moods using an integrated touchscreen, as well as contact staff for additional help.Pompei A.D. is currently engaged in the roll-out of this store concept, with multiple locations opened in late 2011 in the New York area, and more locations opening nationwide in 2012.
