The BZJ Textile factory in Bursa/TURKEY with a total floor area of 8000 m2 combines production, distribution and administrative functions under the same roof.
The idea was to make the building one homogeneous object, both in terms of the different sections of the factory – production plant, offices and showroom – and in terms of the exterior appearance. In order to create a visual contrast to the heavy concrete, we let the light shine through the perforated facade which makes the building look very light. The basement floor is where the delicate fabrics are manufactured; machines are working day and night. Logistics, offices and meeting rooms are on the ground floor. The showrooms, more offices and leisure space are on the top floor. Environmental-friendly double-façade (glass curtain walls and windows as first facade and perforated aluminum panels as second outer facade) controls the natural lighting and climate changes during the day and seasons.
Prefabricated concrete structural system has been chosen as it is fastest and the most economical construction method. This structural feature was taken into account in the design, and all the structural and electrical/mechanical systems were left open to view in the administration area. The custom-designed furniture in a predominantly “mid-century” style lends a sense of fun and color, as well as comfort and elegance to the offices and showrooms. By this means it was aimed to strike a new balance with the characteristic features of an industrial building.
The interaction between the functions of the factory and the land shape both the building and the ground and it manifests itself through the facade of the factory. As a result, the exterior space and its surroundings become an extension of the factory.
