This project is a new garage with guest accommodation for a holiday house by the coast. Simple forms incorporate a solid wall to the street, matching the finish to the existing house and establishing a sense of privacy. The floating roof plane hovers above the upper bedrooms, reducing the impact of its height and shading the recessive walls.
The pergola is set as a continuous plane floating out from the main building mass, with deck areas as it opens to the property and connects with the existing house. The timber frames align with the deep eaves of the existing dwelling. The cladding, which is locally sourced sugar gum, draws from the weathered timber boathouses of the area.
