The BV1 Residence, designed for a young couple and their two St.Bernard dogs, is located on a small 50 foot by 150 foot lot that was parceled off of a larger estate property in the established Bluffview area of Dallas. The layout of the 3,600 square foot home is comprised of a series of three pods. Each pod serves a different programmatic function; the car pod, living pod & sleeping pod. Between each pod is a compressed glass connector that provides the sensation of travelling outdoors between each of the pods. The design strategy was to organize the floor plan around a single common outdoor space, versus the conventional front & back yard model, and focus the budget and creative energy on a single common outdoor area. A rusting solid panel steel fence was introduced to separate the street from the new common pool & garden courtyard that both the master bedroom and main living area open onto. The material palette was kept simple with an off-white stucco covering the majority of the interior & exterior surfaces and dark wood siding at select accent areas.
