The BV project is a showroom, workshop, office, and residence for an internationally-
recognized bag and accessory designer in the Philippines. The project is a renovation of a nondescript three-storey building. It is now sculpted into three independently stacked elements that are deliberately misaligned to create canopies on the east for shading and terraces on the south for viewing and landscaped decks.
The main feature of the north and west facades is a white perforated panel system
inspired by the intricate beadwork of BV’s masterpieces. The variation in the cladding pattern is determined by the requirements of air circulation, acoustics, and illumination. The facade design allows for low velocity air circulation and for passive cooling by allowing air to slowly enter and escape via the skylights in the roof. This satisfies the beaders who prefer natural ventilation and work with featherweight materials. The second function of the facade is to create an acoustic boundary between the workshop and the busy street outside. The third function is to reflect natural light into the interiors to increase lux levels with daylight and to limit the sun exposure in specific areas. The rest of the property and the terraces will be landscaped with tropical plants. The
interiors of the office and workshop will use industrial finishes, such as epoxy flooring, recycled wood planks, and concrete plastered walls. The showroom and the residence will be finished with luxurious materials such as natural stone, brass, and textured wallpapers to reflect the brand’s identity
