It was a tall drink order: Relaunch a popular restaurant/bar that had closed due to its previous riverfront location flooding. Connect to a clearly developed + defined Cajun concept by Full Court Press. Repurpose a 1960s office building facade into inviting exterior decks + entry to reveal people + fun to be had inside.
A modern “swamp shack” emerged, designed to draw in people from the Court Avenue Entertainment District to the south + Wells Fargo Arena to the north. We used lighting to invigorate the deck space as well as big, bold color + materials to attract customers.
Buzzard Billy’s is back. The decks + entry are highly visible, overlooking downtown Des Moines + the river. Patrons pack the indoor + outdoor spaces to enjoy good food + drink in comfortable, dynamic surroundings that enhance an already successful concept.
"With Buzzard Billy's, we knew we needed to hit a home run with the makeover of the exterior of the building we were moving into. With vision, creativity + expertise, the professionals at ge Wattier Architecture [Slingshot] produced a design that is not only beautiful (as we are constantly told by patrons), it exudes instant credibility while keeping our ultra-casual conceptual feel intact." - Andy Massoth, Owner
