Addition and remodel of one of notable mid-century NW architect William Fletcher’s last residential projects. The original home, built
in 1989, featured large windows, sleek and linear lines, but had largely fallen into disrepair. Inspired by the over 20 acres of vineyards on site, and extensive views of the Cascade Mountain Range, Centerfield’s intervention was to re-infuse the organizational post and beam structure originally implemented by Fletcher, to allow for a complex play of indoor/outdoor living.
In an effort to maintain the original spirit of the home, 520 sf of new floor area was carefully weaved into the existing building massing. In addition, covered outdoor areas, largely in disrepair, were replaced, added to, or removed in order to further enable connections between spaces. Locally sourced materials, like Douglas Fir siding and board formed concrete, along with floor to ceiling doors and windows showcase the surrounding natural landscape and provide ample daylighting throughout the day.
