Bukidnon Sports Complex, located at Canayan Malaybalay City, Bukidnon, is a state-of- the-art sports complex, thoroughly planned and designed to cater to the needs of the Philippines’ world-class athletes. The program aims to provide Mindanaoan athletes with greater access to quality, affordable sports facilities, and encourage people to exercise regularly to lessen the risks of diseases, which would eventually result in higher productivity levels and lower healthcare costs.
The architectural aspect of this project strives to empower people to engage with others, generate memorable experiences, and live with a sense of wonder. The initial brief required a wide range of facilities such as an aquatics center, gymnasium, stadium, and dormitories. While the sports platform remains the complex’s primary purpose, we were wary of its potential to become a white elephant underutilized during sports off-seasons, so we designed an inclusive venue that even non-athletes, senior citizens, and the handicapped could use.
