Description
Guadalupe is a low-density-single-family-houses neighbourhood, with two Universities demanding dwelings for students, wich has been modifing use of urban plots.
This 11.80 x 23 meters corner had a doble oportunity: A Public Square across the street and urban regulations that allowed, through a wise design, to increase built volumne and reach height, adding a new building type to the district.
In that way, the tower takes distance from neighbour limits and raises above sourrounding houses to obtain views to the park and Setubal lagoon to east, north and south, while to the west, facade closes up to control a rather annoying afternoon sun. The staircase, steps apart from main volumen, opening its sides to the street.
This tall volumen containing the water tank and the elevator machine on top, is also the axis from wich an almost simetric plan organices two apartments per storey. Each of them has a proper lay out for better views.
Ground floor has 7 parking lots, the main entrance, and a dwelling with independent entrance from the other street and a patio, just as a any house in the neighbourhood.
This Project is also, part of a series of architectonic investigations our office is working from some time, based on housing typology and the conception of common spaces as stairs and hallways as part of the public space.
