The project “Commercial stores and student residence in Nanterre” it’s still a conceptual design, because it was a proposal for a client that until this moment, keeps thinking about doing more investments on the building.
An construction company involved in the process contacted us and asked for a solution with minimal investment. The ground floor was really well designed at the original architecture project, remembering the modern architecture with some Piet Mondrian influences, so we proposed to recover this space, clean all the old store advertisements and stablish that all future advertisements would be fixed to the horizontal windows of every respective store.
As for the first floor, the client wanted to build an extension to accommodate more students; the problem with this demand is that the existing floor must be sustained, as they only want to add a new thermal insulation to the existing apartments, so, instead of making an extension that was completely diferente from the original building, we decided to create some new elements (the yellow metal boxes) which allowed us to modify the poor design of the existing first floor and use it as a pattern to design the building extension.
