BuGaan housing project represents a departure from the ordinary ones, embodying a fusion of creativity and functionality. Its name, derived from a playful twist in Thai meaning "my freaking house," serves as a bold and catchy marketing strategy, encapsulating the project's unconventional spirit.
The architectural design of BuGaan is driven by a commitment to expressiveness and individuality. The architect embarked on a thorough examination of the project's urban context, dissecting visual elements to uncover underlying patterns. It became evident that the urban landscape was dominated by stacking boxes – buildings and houses arranged in various configurations. However, rather than succumb to conformity, the design aimed to carve out a unique identity that would distinguish itself amidst the conventional backdrop.
Inspired by the organic forms found in nature, particularly the smooth, rounded surfaces of pebbles sculpted by natural processes, the design sought to soften the rigid edges typically associated with traditional structures. This concept of "modern organic architecture" became the guiding principle of the project, infusing it with a sense of harmony with the surrounding environment. Softened edges, subtle textures, and a warm, earthy color palette were employed to create a welcoming ambiance reminiscent of the natural world, offering inhabitants a serene sanctuary away from the urban chaos.
The architectural composition of BuGaan mimics the arrangement of stacked pebbles, with an emphasis on horizontal lines in the roof overhangs to provide shadows and evoke a sense of residential comfort. The incorporation of semi-outdoor spaces between the building masses encourages residents to embrace outdoor living, providing a refreshing escape from the confines of indoor spaces.
This seamless integration of indoor and outdoor living is further exemplified by the arrangement of living spaces and the central swimming pool, strategically nestled within the building masses. A notable feature is the inclusion of a protruding special room known as the "Gu space" or passion room, designed to cater to the unique needs of the owner and serve as a platform for self-expression.
