The new Biology, Physics, Chemistry and Maths Departments are housed in a three-storey building, arranged around a semicircular courtyard. The classrooms are arranged as fingers, which project from the main body of the building into the landscape behind, allowing daylight and fresh air to penetrate into their heart. There is also a multi-purpose auditorium for lectures and films and additional larger scale teaching space.
The form of the new block makes a coherent series of spaces, which forms a natural continuity with the original Norman Shaw house and the more recent technology block. The outside spaces are linked together along existing routes through the campus.
