With the focus of the studio being to interact with an existing piece of Brutalist architecture, i chose the Oxley Business Centre in Crows Nest, North Sydney as the subject. Writing my own brief for the site I adopted the adjacent site that currently serves as a Car dealership and proposed an extension of the existing 4 storey car park beneath this site as well in order to accommodate 2 cinema auditoria. The program above ground was then filled out with public serving functions such as a cafe and grocery store at ground floor and restaurants, bars and lettable office space before serving the residential volume above. The 11 floors of this volume propose around 150 apartments ranging from 1 - 4 bedroom apartments as well as providing a Gym, Swimming pool and Shared Gardens. The project conceptually evolved as 3 contemporary sprouts from the original Brutalist seed where the new volumes have inherited traits from the existing building to form a coherent proposal where the original plays an important role in the new development.
