The Brunswick Medical Centre
(BMC) is a private medical clinic located in Pointe-Claire, Québec. The project transformed a
former commercial building into a medical centre with nine different clinics,
divided over four floors.
In order to this, ekm
architecture analyzed the spatial needs of each clinic in order to optimize the
space, allow for fluidity of circulation and maximize the building’s performance.
The BMC includes medical
clinics such as cardiology, minor surgery, dermatology, family medicine, gynecology
and radiology, as well as administrative and commercial spaces such as a conference
center, lounge and café.The project paid a lot of
attention to the experience of the patients. Wherever possible, waiting rooms for
the various clinics were placed at the corners of the building, in order to
take full advantage of natural light and views to the outside.
The lobbies were made as transparent as
possible, in order to open up and animate the space and allow natural light to
filter into the core of the building.
The execution
of the project was carried out using a “fast-track” approach.Close collaboration between the
client, the contractor and the architect was essential to this process. The project is very popular,
with both staff and users of BMC.
